Luke Littler’s Warrington Mural — and His Bid for Darts’ First Ever Clean Sweep

A 38ft Tribute in Warrington

The mural, painted on the side of the Golden Square Shopping Centre in Warrington, stands more than 11 metres (38ft) tall and was unveiled on Thursday 30 July 2026 to mark Littler’s rise from local talent to world champion. It comes with a fittingly homely twist: Littler’s nan saw it before the rest of the family, having spotted the artwork being prepared from a passing bus the day before and stopped to take a look.

Littler said he was “unbelievably happy” with the tribute, admitting that “the old Luke Littler wouldn’t have ever thought about this happening.” But the reigning world champion didn’t stay on the subject of hometown pride for long — asked about the rest of his year, he made clear his focus is on completing something no player in PDC history has ever managed.

Five Majors Down in 2026

Littler has won every major he has entered so far this year, starting with a back-to-back World Championship title on 3 January, beating Gian van Veen 7-1 in the final at Alexandra Palace to become just the fourth player to retain the world title, after Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and Gary Anderson, and the first since Anderson in 2016.

The World Masters and UK Open came earlier in the year, before Luke Humphries was beaten in a last-leg decider on Premier League finals night at The O2. Then came Blackpool, where Littler thrashed Gerwyn Price 18-9 in the World Matchplay final, breaking two of Phil Taylor’s long-standing average records along the way. The Four Still to Come — and the One He’s Never Won

Four majors remain on the 2026 calendar. Littler is the defending champion at two of them, but the tournament that matters most to the clean sweep bid is the one he has never got his hands on.

Why the European Championship Is the Big Question Mark

Littler has reached major finals almost at will this year, but the European Championship in Dortmund is the one significant gap on his CV. It’s the tournament most likely to decide whether the clean sweep talk is still alive heading into the season’s final stretch, and it lands just three weeks after the World Grand Prix — a demanding double-in, double-out format that has troubled plenty of players who are otherwise dominant on a standard board.

Why Nobody Has Ever Done This

Winning every major in a single calendar year has never been achieved in the PDC era. Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen have, between them, held every major title at different points in their careers, but never swept the lot within one season.
